Router showing a red light — what it means and how to fix it
A solid or flashing red light on your Netfizz router usually means the fiber signal has been interrupted. Here is how to diagnose and resolve it in under 5 minutes.
What the red light means
Your Netfizz ONT (Optical Network Terminal) has an indicator called PON or LOS. When it glows red, the device is not receiving a fiber signal from the street-side cable.
Step 1 — Check the fiber cable
Locate the thin yellow or orange cable running from the small white box on your wall into the back of your router. Make sure it is:
- Fully pushed into the port (you should hear a click)
- Not bent sharply at any point — fiber breaks if bent tighter than a 3 cm radius
- Free of any visible damage or kinks
Step 2 — Restart the ONT
- Unplug the power cable from the back of the white ONT box
- Wait 60 seconds
- Plug it back in and wait 3 minutes for it to re-register
Step 3 — Check for outages in your area
Open the Netfizz app or visit our status page. If there is a reported outage on your street, our team is already working on it and no action is needed on your end.
Step 4 — Call us
If the light is still red after the above steps, call 1800-123-4567. Our engineers can remotely check the signal level reaching your ONT and book a technician if the cable needs replacing.
Most red-light issues are resolved remotely within 15 minutes. Physical cable faults are fixed within 4 hours.
