How to secure your home Wi-Fi network

A poorly secured Wi-Fi network can be accessed by neighbours or malicious actors. Here are the five steps to lock down your Netfizz home network.

Step 1 — Change the default Wi-Fi password

The password printed on your router sticker is unique but short. Replace it with a longer passphrase of 16+ characters. Go to 192.168.1.1 → Wireless → Security.

Step 2 — Use WPA3 or WPA2 encryption

In your router wireless settings, ensure the Security Mode is set to WPA3 (preferred) or WPA2-AES. Never use WEP or WPA-TKIP — these are broken and easily cracked.

Step 3 — Change the router admin password

The admin portal at 192.168.1.1 has a default login. Change it to a strong unique password under Administration → Admin Password. This prevents anyone on your network from changing your settings.

Step 4 — Enable the guest network for visitors

Your Netfizz router supports a separate guest Wi-Fi network. Enable it in Wireless → Guest Network and give visitors that password instead of your main one. Guest networks are isolated from your smart home devices.

Step 5 — Review connected devices regularly

In the Netfizz app under My Network → Connected Devices, you can see every device on your network. If you see something unfamiliar, tap Block Device immediately and change your Wi-Fi password.

Frequently Asked Questions

As your ISP, Netfizz can see DNS queries and metadata (which sites you visit) but not the content of encrypted HTTPS connections. We do not sell or share browsing data with third parties.

Hiding the SSID provides minimal security benefit and makes it harder to connect new devices. A strong WPA3 password is far more effective.
